Root Canal

Dr. Rahul Malik at Ace Dental - Brockton  has been providing quality care to patients for years, so there’s no reason you should be afraid of a root canal. Over the years, “root canal” has become a scary term for many dental patients to hear, but fortunately the improvements of the procedure and advances in dental technology have made it much less petrifying these days. If you have a tooth that has become infected or its pulp has become damaged, Dr. Rahul Malik will save it using endodontic treatment. To assure that you receive a comfortable experience during and after your appointment, Dr. Rahul Malik would like to explain the procedure step-by-step.

The procedure itself is no more painful than having a filling placed, especially after a local anesthetic is placed around the tooth. For starters, Dr. Rahul Malik will drill down into the tooth to create an opening into the canal. The doctor will then be able to remove infected tissue and clean the canal. After the infection has been removed, the space is filled with a sealant called gutta-percha to keep out contaminants such as saliva and food. Lastly, the tooth will be restored with a crown to protect it.

A tooth’s nerve can become irritated, inflamed, and infected due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures on a tooth, and/or large fillings, a crack or chip in the tooth, or trauma to the face. If you experience severe toothache pain upon chewing or application of pressure, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold temperatures, discoloration of the tooth, and/or swelling or tenderness in the nearby gums, please give us a call to discuss your treatment options.
